Connecting Internet LAN Cable 

  • The LAN is used to connect two desktop PCs along with the internet connection method. The connecting Internet LAN cable is used to create a local area network for sharing the internet and files/folders. Steps to connect your PCs to another pc using a LAN internet connection.

  • Find the Ethernet port on your PC. You can usually find this on the back of your desktop, or along the side or back of a laptop.
  • Plug one end of an Ethernet cable into your computer. Make sure you are using an Ethernet cable, not a telephone cable.
  • Plug the other end of the cable into an open LAN port. This can be any open LAN port either on the router or the switch, depending on Your LAN setup.
  • Test your network. Once all of the computers are connected to a LAN port, they will be assigned IPs automatically and will appear on the network.
  • Also, make sure that you have an internet connection and account on your PC.
  • Go to the start menu and search the control panel. Once you see it, click on it.
  • The control panel window opens, click on Network and internet.
  • A dialog box appears; open the networking and sharing center. Alternatively, You can also type control panel \ Network and Internet \ Network and sharing center and press the Enter key. This will redirect you from the control panel to the network and sharing center.
  • On the left-hand side of the network and sharing center window, click on change adapter settings.
  • This will display different connections. Select the appropriate connection for your LAN. Select Ethernet and have the description network cable unplugged.
  • Right-click on the connection and select properties.
  • Click the Sharing tab, and check and allow other network users to connect through this computer's internet connection under internet connection sharing.
  • Press OK.
  • Now, you have enabled network sharing on both PCs so that both PCs are connected with a physical LAN cable.
  • Click the Networking tab. Select internet protocol version 4(TCP/IPv4), and then click on the Properties button.
  • Here, you need to configure the two PCs with different IP settings. In the general tab, set the IP address and subnet mask of the first computer.
  • For the first computer( say, computer 1):
               IP address:        192.168.0.1
                    Subnet mask:        255.255.255.0
  • For the second computer( say, computer 2):
                     IP address:        192.168.0.2
                     Subnet mask:       255.255.255.0                                                                                                                                               

  • It is important to ensure that the last values of the IP addresses for both computers are different.   

  • Click the Ok button.
  • Connect to the internet on the server PC ( the one actually attached to the internet) and then try to access the internet on the other PC(s).
